Blue Mirror Spotlight: Singapore General Hospital

The first of our customer and partner close-ups, this month we sit down with Ms Ang Shin Yuh, from Singapore General Hospital and SingHealth to discuss their experience with using Blue Mirror.

1. What inspired the idea of using a smart mirror to ensure PPE is worn properly?

During the pandemic, senior nurses were asked to teach safe donning and doffing techniques to a mass load of both healthcare and non-healthcare personnel. Interventions such as a ‘buddy system’ (i.e. checking on each other during donning and doffing) and use of physical mirrors were also implemented to keep staff safe. The experience prompted the team to a need for an automated, AI enabled technology to not only train and check, but also allow for continual practice and competency assessment.

2. In choosing a partner to work with, what do you look for?

Nimbleness; and sharing of a similar vision. We look for tech partners that adopt and abide by the agile methodology in design and implementation.

3. Could you describe your experience collaborating with the Blue Mirror team?

It was awesome! Despite being in different time zones, the Blue Mirror team is very responsive. They are also committed to continual improvement and close partner engagement to ensure that we are well versed to use the technology in the most effective and efficient manner possible. They also ensure that they improve their UI/UX based on feedback received and that we get to enjoy new features firsthand.

4. Has there been further development on the Blue Mirror PPE Instructor since the announcement in Jul 2022?

We have since expanded our use to include hand hygiene training and competency checks; and introduced the solution to our colleagues in the rest of the SingHealth institutions. The solution will be implemented in eight SingHealth institutions by the end of 2024.
